The Birdist - Scary Birding Stories
Over at The Birdist, Nick Lund compiled a collection of scary birding stories in celebration of Halloween. I'm very pleased to have contributed a story of my own, which you can read along with the rest right here: The Birdist - Scary Birding Stories!

Happy Valentine's Day from the Hipster Birders!
Today is a day dedicated to celebrating love. Here is a moment of love captured between a mating pair of Anhingas that we witnessed in January 2010 at Wakodahatchee Wetlands, Delray Beach, FL. This place is known for attracting numerous mating pairs of herons and egrets and Anhingas every year. These anhingas were in love and not afraid to show it. =)
And if that's not enough lovey birdiness for you, check out this sweet couple of Monk Parakeets.

Featured Feathered Friend - Christmas Edition!
In the spirit of the holiday season, today's Featured Feathered Friend (or friends) are the mallard duck statues in the Boston Public Garden in Boston, MA. During a mini Christmas trip Nick and I took to Boston last year, we stumbled upon these adorable statues of a mother mallard and her ducklings. These statues were erected in honor of the children's book Make Way for Ducklings written and illustrated by Robert McCloskey in 1941. The delightful story is about a pair of ducks who decide to raise their eight ducklings in an island in the lagoon of the Boston Public Garden.
Nick and I were lucky enough to get to the park early enough before other visitors came along. I was able to get some lovely pics of these cute ducks with their decorative holiday bows as they seemed to be waddling in the Boston snow.
***Merry Christmas, Everyone! We hope that you all have a wonderful holiday season!***
