Hungry, Hungry Cormorant
One thing that never ceases to amaze me is when a bird somehow manages to get down a meal that's seemingly well above it's weight class. To my mind, their digestive tracts must expand indefinitely to allow passage of some of the heftier morsels. Has anyone ever seen a bird choke, or is it a physical impossibility? For all of the tossing about to fix the correct position of its prey, does the bird every fatally miscalculate? I seem always to doubt the bird's judgment, and find myself delighted each time I'm proven wrong.

ReplyDeleteAmazing captures! So was the cormorant really able to win the struggle and gulp that huge thing down its neck entirely okay?? Does the fish put up a good fight, if eaten, does the poor fish get swallowed down wriggling all the way as well?!
