Update on Black-Headed Gull

This is a quick post to inform you all that the Black-Headed Gull is still present at the Frank W. Spencer Boat Ramp Park. Nick and I relocated him around 8:15am this morning. He was mostly hanging around the Hooded Mergansers again.

I observed him for about an hour, and when I left the boat ramp, he was still there. He was mostly spending time around the North East side of the water, across the way from the boat ramp towards the private docks. I snapped a few not-so-great shots of him when he flew closer to the boat ramp just to get a sense of the underwing. You cannot see the fine details of the underwing from the pictures, but you can get a good sense of it. Notice the dark primaries. Please forgive the poor shots as low lighting was an issue.

Another softer, artistic look at the Black-Headed Gull

But we're glad that we were able to relocate the gull. Hopefully he sticks around for the other visitors to see him. Again, we believe low tide is the best time to see the Black-Headed Gull.

  1. You both did a great job locating and identifying this Gull. We really appreciate it. Here's a few of my shots of it a week or so later:

    1. Thanks for your comment, Roy! It was very exciting to have discovered him, and we were glad that so many Georgia birders came out to see him and enjoy him (and check Black-headed Gull on their life lists). Thanks for sharing your photos, as well!

    1. Hi Liam! We actually saw him last this past Saturday. I haven't checked on him since then, but I hope he's still there!
